After seeing her sister succeed going through Delaware Tech’s communications program, 拉玛撒 decided to follow in her footsteps.
“She succeeded very well academically and I saw her doing a lot of things that felt really cool to me,母猪说。. “I felt this was the best option for me because it had the major I wanted and I thought coming here would improve my academic 信心 and give me skills to succeed in the long term.”
Sow chose communications not only because of her sister’s success, but because it was a field she had been interested in since she was little.
“From a young 年龄 I always loved watching television and I feel like I always wanted to work behind the scenes and learn the process of creating an amazing visual,”她说。. “Directing, 写作, and 生产 seemed like very cool processes.”
As she got older, being a photographer also started to interest her. Since the communications program provides students with a solid foundation in video production, 写作, 生产, 摄影, 和播客, it all fit within her chosen major.
“I was interested in 摄影 but I was a little intimidated using a camera since I didn’t know much about all of the settings,母猪说。. “Coming to Delaware Tech helped me learn the basics and the terminology and made me comfortable not only with the equipment but with the entire suite of Adobe products I need to use in production and post-production.
“Everything was very user-friendly and I feel like that helped me gain 信心 to take on new challenges. I’ve learned how to edit and create in different programs, and having that knowledge along with the skills I’ve gained here will hopefully help me get my foot in the door of the industry.”
When she first enrolled at Delaware Tech, Sow said she hadn’t been taking her academics seriously. As she continued through college, she challenged herself to ask for help, study more frequently on and off campus, and improve her overall GPA. 现在, she has a much better GPA and has the knowledge, 信心, and organizational skills to set short term and long term goals and the ability reach those goals.
“If any students are struggling academically, I would say to them to give yourself a chance, 尝试一切, ask questions that are specific to you and what you are trying to learn, come to campus and reach out for extra help, and take your pursuit of your career seriously,母猪说。. “This is the first step in the process of improving things. If you can overcome the stress of assignments and organize your schedule, you’ll have a much better chance of succeeding and that will help you with your future job opportunities.”
